JULIA WATSON

DESIGNER & AUTHOR / Lo-TEK, Design by Radical Indigenism

In an era of high-tech and climate extremes, we are drowning in information while starving for wisdom. Designer, activist, and academic, Julia Watson is a leading expert on indigenous, nature-based technologies, profiled in her new book ”Lo-TEK, Design by Radical Indigenism” (Taschen). Lo-TEK is a design movement building on indigenous philosophy and vernacular infrastructure to generate sustainable, resilient, nature-based technology and in the book, Julia explores millennia-old human ingenuity on how to live in symbiosis with nature.

Julia teaches Urban Design at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and at Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. She also also runs a landscape architecture and urban design studio that approaches design as rewilding. Lo—TEK has been featured in The Washington Post, The Guardian, Fast Company, CNN, New Scientist, Dezeen and many more, and her book was Number One on Amazon’s Bestsellers List for Sustainability and Technology.
